Red Mole
[London]

(1970-1973)

In March 1970, the paper that International Marxist Group was part of the publishing effort of the Black Dwarf suffered an editorial board split over questions of Leninism. A second newspaper was established, Red Mole, which Tariq Ali edited alongside an editorial board with an IMG majority. Red Mole was a "revolutionary internationalist" paper that carried a broad range of left-wing opinion in its pages, including a famous interview with John Lennon, Chenhanho Chimutengwende, a Zimbabwe exile who later served as a minister under Robert Mugabe, was one of the non-IMG members on the editorial board. IMG members also took part in New Left Review: Tariq Ali, Robin Blackburn, and Quintin Hoare were on its editorial board for much of the 1970s and subsequently.

Presented below is mirror of the Red Mole from the web site redmolerising.wordpress.com established by Rob Marden which is a project dedicated to the digitization of the publication of the International Marxist Group, a British Trotskyist group. We thank him for his kind permission to let the ETOL copy these files to our server.

There are some issues with the files linked below. The Red Mole Rising project used 24 bit color through out, creating very large files. Additionally the scanner(s) used were not able to scan the entire page of these publications so often some text is lost at the top and bottom. The collection is not complete as coming by original paper of these publications is not always easy. But for the most part the majority of the issues of Red Mole are available. In some cases the dates were something a guess as they often did not get scanned or, were simply left off the publication for the issues involved. Thus file names are "best guess". We added volume numbers just to make ordering them easier for us, but volume numbers were used inconsistently in the publication. Red Mole Rising also added some broadsheet version of the publication, of which several are included along with some important special issues around health care and the miners strikes in the 1970s. We apologize in advance if the dates and ordering of the listing below is not completely accurate.
