This book, published last year, presents papers read at a Conference in 1960; the inexplicable delay of five years dates the contributions. These concern mainly the statistical methods for assessing economic growth, national income, capital formation, flow of funds and real product in India, with two essays on Japan, two on the ECAFE region, and one each on Taiwan and the Philippines. The essays are in the main clear, relevant and useful, although, obviously, of primarily technical significance; the contributions point up very sharply, the limitations in the data which are bandied about in discussions on planning in different Asian countries, and, thereby, the immense limitations in any attempt at economic planning in these countries.
