Oddity with issue and whole numbering in The Bulletin, in the December 1973 issues: (1) Holt Labor Library's holdings of The Bulletin were missing all December 1973 issues. (2) Long after we originally made this digital archive, I scanned at Tamiment Library, from their holdings, the December 1973 issues they had. This consisted of SIX issues in December, from Dec 04 thru Dec 21. There were no issues in Tamiment's holdings of the December 1973 Bulletin after December 21. (3) First thing I noticed was a numbering oddity: The Dec 04 1973 and the Dec 07 1973 issues bear IDENTICAL issue numbers AND whole number. (4) The final December issue we have is "v9n59 w334 Friday Dec 21 1973" (5) The next issue I know of (in Tamiment Library's holdings AND in Holt Labor Library's holdings) is: v10n01 w336 Tuesday Jan 01 1974 NOTE the whole number of 336, and that the last whole number we had for the Dec 21 1973 issue was w334. So... what's up with that? I speculate: PROBABLY what's going on is that the last issue in December of 1973 IS the December 21 issue (which we have), and that after that they ceased publication until Jan 01 1974 to "take off for the holiday season". When they started up again, refreshed, they decided THEN... after five screwed up issue numbers... to correct the whole numbering sequence to correctly reflect the total number of issues printed. However, I suppose it's POSSIBLE that there was one MORE issue printed in December of 1973 after the Dec 21 issue. After all, the paper WAS mostly twice a week, and there still TEN more days in December! This hypothetical issue would have been whole number 335, and it would then mean the actual total issue count is one MORE than the whole number would suggest. If anyone knows of a December 1973 Bulletin issue AFTER Dec 21 1973, please call it to our attention. Ideally we'd like to know it's date, it's issue number, and its whole number... and better yet, be given a scan of it... or be loaned a copy of it so we can scan it. It's even possible there is MORE than one missing issue here. However, what I at this point think is most likely is that we have all (six) December issues, and January 1974 represents a correction of the whole numbering to make it in accord with the total issues printed. But I can't prove that beyond question at this point. I can only, as I've just done, present what evidence I have, and my reasoning based on same. ============================= Volume 9 The Bulletin 1973 n54 w229 Fri Nov 30 n55 w330 Tue Dec 04 n55 w330 Tue Dec 04 n55 w330 Fri Dec 07 !!
