Publisher’s Note: On July 20, the Central Committee delegation of the CP(M-L) led by Chairman Michael Klonsky was greeted in Peking by Hua Kuo-feng, Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party. After a warm and friendly discussion, Chairman Hua held a banquet in honor of the U. S. delegation.

At the banquet, speeches and toasts were exchanged between Klonsky and Vice-Premier of the State Council Li Hsien-nien. Below we reprint the complete texts of these historic statements.

Comrade Li Hsien-nien’s speech

Dear Comrade Klonsky and Comrade Klehr,

Dear Comrades of the Delegation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (M-L) of the U.S.:

First of all, on behalf of Chairman Hua and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, I wish to express our warm welcome to the delegation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (M-L) of the U.S. with Comrade Klonsky as leader and Comrade Klehr as deputy leader for its visit to China.

Over all these years, the October League (M-L) has attached importance to integrating the universal truth of Marxism-Leninism with the concrete revolutionary practice of its own country and uniting with other Marxist-Leninist groups and other revolutionary forces whereby they eventually have together founded the Communist Party (M-L) of the U.S.

The founding of the Communist Party (M-L) of the U.S. has reflected the aspirations of the proletariat and working people of the U.S. and also marked a new victory for the Marxist-Leninist movement of the U.S. With great joy, we warmly congratulate the founding of the Communist Party (M-L) of the U.S. and warmly congratulate Comrade Klonsky and Comrade Klehr for their being elected as chairman and vice-chairman of the Communist Party of the U.S.

The Communist Party (M-L) of the U.S. warmly supports and highly appraises the great victory gained by our Party Central Committee headed by Chairman Hua Kuo-feng by smashing at one blow the Wang-Chang-Chiang-Yao anti-party “gang of four.” For this we wish to express to you our heartfelt thanks. Ever since our Party smashed the “gang of four” last year, the situation in our country has been excellent and is becoming better and better.

Under the leadership of the Party Central Committee, headed by the wise leader Chairman Hua, the whole Party and the people of the whole country have carried out Chairman Mao’s behests, held high the great banner of Chairman Mao, grasped the key link to manage well the affairs of the country, exposed and criticized the “gang of four” in depth, distinguished right from wrong concerning the two lines and grasped simultaneously the three great revolutionary movements of class struggle, the struggle for production and scientific experiment.

As a result, a new leap forward situation seething with enthusiasm has emerged. We are determined to carry the revolutionary cause pioneered by Chairman Mao and other veteran proletarian revolutionaries through to the end. We are determined to build our country into a powerful socialist country with all-round modernization in agriculture, industry, national defense, science and technology, and strive to make a greater contribution to humanity.

The current international situation is still characterized by great disorder under heaven and remains excellent. The factors of both war and revolution are growing. The two hegemonic powers of the U.S. and the Soviet Union are contending fiercely and the focal point of their contention is in Europe. In particular, Soviet social-imperialism is frenziedly engaged in armaments expansion and war preparations. It stretches out its hands everywhere in expansion and aggression. It is more dangerous.

But the general trend of development of the international situation remains favorable to the people of the various countries and unfavorable to the two superpowers. Countries want independence, nations want liberation and the people want revolution—this is a great historical trend which is forging ahead and is irresistible. We are confident that by persisting in their struggle, daring to fight, and being good at fighting, the people of various countries will surely win final victory.

It is in such an excellent situation that the delegation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (M-L) of the U.S. has come to visit our country. We deeply believe that through your visit the revolutionary friendship and militant unity between our two countries are bound to be further developed and strengthened. The Communist Party (M-L) of the U.S. will surely continue to achieve new successes in its fight against the monopoly capitalist class at home and the two hegemonic powers by integrating the universal truth of Marxism-Leninism with the concrete revolutionary practice of its own country, going deep among the masses and boldly arousing the masses.

Now, I would like to propose a toast.
To the founding of the Communist Party (M-L) of the U.S.,
To the success of the visit of the delegation of the Communist Party (M-L) of the U.S.,
To the health of Comrade Klonsky, Comrade Klehr and all other comrades of the delegation.

Comrade Klonsky’s speech

Comrade Hua Kuo-feng, Comrade Li Hsien-nien and other comrades: On behalf of the Communist Party (M-L) of the U.S., I wish to express our militant and warmest greetings of solidarity to the Communist Party of China.

The visit of our delegation of Central Committee members to China has greatly enhanced the unity of our two Parties and the unity of the workers and peoples of our two countries.

This visit has enabled us to gain a deeper understanding and receive a first-hand account of the struggle against the “gang of four.” We heard much evidence of the terrible crimes they committed against the Chinese people.

We hail the great victory of the people, led by the Communist Party and its wise leader Chairman Hua in smashing the “gang of four” in one swift blow.

This was not only a victory for the people of China, but for the whole international working class and communist movement. It was a victory in defending socialism against an attempt at capitalist restoration as well as in defending the purity of Marxism-Leninism against revisionism.

In our country, too, the class struggle is developing rapidly in a positive direction. Recently, the First Congress of the Communist Party (M-L) was held, and this Founding Congress succeeded in uniting significant sections of the communists in the U.S. into a unified party.

Our Party has been born in the heat of rising class struggle and in the midst of a new upsurge in the movements of workers and minorities.

The Chinese Communist Party and particularly Chairman Mao always gave encouragement and support to the struggle of the U.S. working class against the monopoly capitalists, and for this we are deeply grateful.

Chairman Mao placed his “great hopes” on the people of the U.S., and his many statements in support of the U.S. people’s and Afro-American people’s struggle will never be forgotten.

The passing away of our beloved Comrade Mao and Chou En-lai has deeply grieved us.

But we are determined to carry on the teachings of Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin and Mao Tsetung, and to carry on the struggle against the bourgeoisie and against modern revisionism through to the end—to the dictatorship of the proletariat and socialism.

As a Marxist-Leninist party in one of the two superpowers, and recognizing our responsibility to lead the struggle to topple the U.S. imperialist ruling class, we are determined as well to make a contribution to the worldwide struggle against the two superpowers, the U.S. and Soviet social-imperialism, the main enemies of the peoples of the world.

We are committed to aiding and uniting firmly with the struggles of the peoples of the third world, who are today the main force against imperialism and hegemonism.

Chairman Mao’s brilliant teaching on the “three worlds” is a scientific application of class analysis to today’s world conditions. This thesis clearly defines friends and enemies and isolates the two superpowers while uniting the world’s peoples.

In the world today, the growing contention and wild arms expansion of the two superpowers is leading to an inevitable world war.

The Soviet social-imperialists in particular are the most dangerous of the two and the main source of war. They must be ruthlessly exposed and stripped of their phony “socialist” mask.

While the path is difficult, the future is very bright and the people of the world will certainly win out in their struggle against imperialism and hegemonism.

The People’s Republic of China and the glorious Communist Party of China headed by Comrade Hua Kuo-feng are blazing a brilliant path forward in the socialist revolution. In the past year great new victories have been won in carrying on the revolutionary struggle and socialist construction.

The movements to learn from Tachai in agriculture and Taching in industry have reached new heights with the smashing of the “gang of four.”

We in the Communist Party of the U.S. warmly salute these great advances and are confident you will win even greater victories in the future.

I sincerely extend the wishes of our Party for our continued fraternal relations and for the good health of Comrade Hua Kuo-feng and the other leading comrades of the Chinese Communist Party.

Unite to win still greater victories!
