Jared Israel ’66, was arrested on the CCNY uptown campus Friday on a charge of loitering. Israel had been distributing leaflets urging CCNY students to join a�Progressive Labor Movement picket line against Madame Ngo Dinh Nhu, but had stopped when a Burns guard approached him. He respected the refusal of CCNY authorities to allow him to continue to distribute his leaflets, but remained on campus, according to Edward Crawford, assistant to the General Studies Dean of Students, who learned of the incident. Israel was charged with loitering under section 728 of the Penal Code, which according to a police spokesman is designed to prevent “degenerates from hanging around the campuses.” Israel has been released for a hearing on October 15th.
