A moment of opportunity for the American people has come.

Despite nearly a generation in which the government has tried to dehumanize the American people a new spirit of hope is abroad in the land, to the horror of America’s owner-rulers and their “liberal” apologists.

Despite everything – and because of everything, section after section of America’s population – Black America; outcast workers condemned by a system of capitalism that no longer needs their labor power; students and intellectuals contemptuously bribed to a grey-flanneled prostitution – awakens. Their own living experience teaches them – teaches us – the urgency of reclaiming the United States for the people.

The revolutionary hope of the people, nearly choked to death this past generation, is once more found in the streets. The period of awakening, with its stirrings of renewed struggle, are upon us.

But a period is but a moment – and can pass. The moment of opportunity must be seized or it will not be realized. If the hopeless system that dooms America to despair and impoverishment is itself to be buried, we must act now.

The people’s needs require revolution. The people’s dreams demand revolution. But revolution needs organization, an organization of revolution – a revolutionary organization.

To found such an organization, whose inner democracy will express the American people’s needs and dreams, whose centralized strength will unite the people in winning the future, the Progressive Labor Movement together with other American revolutionaries will meet in convention this year in New York City during the Thanksgiving holiday (Nov. 27, 28 and 29.)
